You may remember that two months ago I shared some song lyrics I wrote and, after mentioning that there were actually two songs, said:

Crazy how time gets away from you when you’re both really lazy and unmotivated.
Well here we are, and I have finally remembered to add to my blog. And even though I hardly ever update, I’m so glad it’s here so that I can at least say I wrote something. I think about writing literally every single day. Some days I even sit at my desk, open a Word Doc, and stare at my computer for dozens of minutes.
But nothing ever comes and probably nothing will come, at least not for the foreseeable future. But the origins of this bout of Writer’s Block are not a mystery to me.
I know exactly what my problem is and why I haven’t written anything in months: I have no external accountability and no one asking me to submit anything.
I have never been a self-motivating, I-do-things-for-my-own-good kind of person.
If it’s just me I gotta feed, I eat cereal three meals a day.
The one job I had where it was an honor-system style? I worked four hours a day and spent the rest of the day at lunch.
I haven’t worked out since I quit playing derby because nobody “needs” me to be in shape.
I don’t wash my hair or wear a bra unless I’m going out. (And I don’t mean to the grocery store. That is not “out.” The people at the grocery store are lucky I put on deodorant.)
And, apparently, I don’t write unless 1) I’m trying to beat someone in a contest or 2) I just read something really shitty that got lots of accolades or was published/reviewed positively, and I now feel the need to prove that I can write something better, which is basically the same thing as Point #1.
In case you did not take the hint in the first paragraph and read my original post about these songs, here’s a quick recap: My friend Dale (who I know is reading this: again – NO HARD FEELINGS, DALE!) asked me to write some lyrics to go with a couple of songs he had. Alas, life be lifin’ and Dale never recorded the songs.
So, as long as I’m just sitting here wasting my creative potential and also my life, I figure I can let all five or six of my readers read this other song I wrote which went nowhere and will never be heard by anyone.
Tuesday Again
Well it’s a Tuesday again just like the day before
I put on the t-shirt that’s been lying on the floor
And it smells about the same as it did yesterday
Like Taco Bell and a full ashtray
I check my phone but no one’s texted me
Knock burrito crumbs outta my goatee
Whatever it is I’m doing, it really ain’t enough
But when you’re 22 and broke, being alive is really rough
When I walk into the kitchen to get something to drink
My roommates are all there and they’re talking about me
Someone’s lost a quesadilla, now they’re hungry and pissed off
‘Cause the wrapper’s in the trash but the cheese tortilla’s not
It’s such a mystery but I’m not CSI
I’m here for the beer not to watch them all cry
About rent being late or the toilet being clogged
And I really don’t care that the neighbors called
Yeah I know my car’s been parked on the side of the street
Right in front of their house and it’s been over a week
But it ran out of gas and it’s got four flats
So just what am I supposed to do about that
Chorus
I think I’ll go
I think I’ll go
I think I’ll go
I think I’ll go
Think I’ll go, Yeah I’ll go
Go back to bed
When I get back to my room there’s a note taped to the door
But I just ball it up and throw it on the floor
Whatever it is that someone’s got to say
They can say it to my face on a different Tuesday
I drink a beer for breakfast and another one for lunch
In between I smoke a bowl; that’s what I call brunch
I got nothing left to do and nowhere left to be
No one’s calling, no one’s texting, no one’s worrying about me
But I ain’t that sad, no I ain’t that mad
To be 22 and broke – it ain’t that bad
No one’s knocking on my door and no one’s needing me
Guess all alone is how I’m supposed to be
Think I’ll go back to bed, yes I’ll go back to sleep
Cause none of y’all can follow me into my dreams
Under my blankets, y’all don’t exist
I’m all alone; that’s how I like it
Chorus
I think I’ll go
I think I’ll go
I think I’ll go
I think I’ll go
Think I’ll go, Yeah I’ll go
Go back to bed
‘Cause I ain’t gonna carpe any diems today
The outside world ain’t looking too great
Think I’ll drink another beer and sleep the day away
Try Life again on a different Tuesday
Yeah I’ll try
Try another day
Try another day
Try some other Tuesday
Yeah I’m gonna try
Try another day
Try another day
Try some other day
Try, try another day
Try another day
Try another fucking Tuesday
Try, try some other day
Try some other day
Try some other day
